BControl
A personal finance and travel management platform, with a React app, a FastAPI backend and Telegram alerts.

Why
I wanted one place to track personal finances and travel spending that I fully control, so the data lives on my own infrastructure rather than in a third-party app. BControl has been rebuilt several times over the years, and each rewrite was also a way to try a new stack.
What it is
The current version is a three-part workspace:
- Web app: React 18 with Redux Toolkit and Ant Design 5.
- API: FastAPI with SQLModel on MariaDB, versioned under
/v1/. - Bot: a dependency-free Python Telegram bot that sends finance alerts.
Everything is deployed with Docker Compose and SSL. A Lando-based workflow covers local development.
What it shows
- Long-lived product ownership: the same domain, rebuilt and improved across major versions.
- A pragmatic structure of three independent repositories with clear boundaries, documented handoff notes and environment guides.
- Careful handling of sensitive data: environment files, financial databases and certificates never travel with Git.
